Om Asato Maa Sadgamaya - Piano Rendition

With all the darkness in the world, we’re in need of some light.

When I first heard Asato Maa Sadgamaya, I didn’t understand the words, but something about the way the musician sang, and the energy resonated with me so deeply. It felt as if the cadence of her voice and the instruments were a healing balm of sound applied over my mind and body.

I immediately felt relaxed and hearing the music put me into a deep meditative state. In fact, I remember meditating myself to sleep! I woke up feeling so much lighter, looked at the translation, and realized this was no ordinary moment. Turning darkness into light had been everything my soul dreamed of doing.

This prayer has come to mean so much to me. I’ve recited it when I’ve felt the most stressed, and after a few repetitions I’ve always been able to feel at ease. I spoke to the priest at the Hindu temple near my home and asked for his blessing to include this prayer in my work because of its impact on my life.

A few months later, the tune of my own version just popped into my head…so I sat down in front of my piano just started playing & recording! I hope hearing the original composition of this prayer whether it be as a mantra loop during meditation, having it on in the background, or singing along brings you the same feeling of comfort it brought me.
